Checking Runs of Scenarios | Foundation – Introduction to Operations – Unit 2

Welcome to the second unit of the Introduction to Operations course at Make Foundation! Ready to elevate your operational skills? We’re diving into efficient scenario scheduling and operational management that will transform your automation game. Let’s get started!

Why Scheduling Matters

Scheduling is the backbone of any efficient operational strategy. The key to maximizing your automation capabilities lies in understanding how often you want to execute your scenarios and the resources they consume.

Ask Yourself: What Do You Want to Achieve?

Before diving into scheduling your scenarios, it’s important to answer a few pivotal questions:

  • How often do you want to collect data?
  • Is it crucial that the scenario runs at a specific interval?
  • Will you run this scenario once or multiple times?

You might want your scenario to run every 1, 5, 10, or 15 minutes — but be mindful of what’s realistic. If you’re using a free plan, remember that scenarios can only run at intervals of 15 minutes or more. Paid plans give you more flexibility, allowing for as little as a 1-minute interval.

Analyzing Performance with the Scenario Summary Page

Now that you know how to schedule your scenarios effectively, let’s dive into how to review their performance. Access the scenario summary page by selecting “Scenarios” from the menu and choosing your scenario. Here, you’ll find two indispensable tabs: **Diagram** and **History**.

The Diagram Tab

This tab breaks down your scenario, showcasing its operations and data usage. It’s a game-changer when managing multiple scenarios as it helps track performance and resource consumption.

Hover over the usage chart to view operations and data transfers tracked by day — this insight is crucial for optimizing performance!

The History Tab

Metrics AvailableDescription
Run TimeThe duration of the scenario run.
Data TransferredThe amount of data used during the execution.
Success RateIndicates if the scenario was executed successfully.
Error TrackingDisplays any errors that occurred during execution.
Last EditedDetails when the scenario was last modified.

This information is vital for troubleshooting. With just a quick look, you can identify successes or any errors that need your attention. Plus, the History holds data for up to 30 days!

What to Do About Incomplete Executions?

Sometimes, scenarios may not complete as expected. This is where the Incomplete Execution tab comes in, especially for advanced settings users. It’s designed to pinpoint scenarios that were interrupted unexpectedly, making it easier to troubleshoot issues promptly.

If you need more details about a specific execution, simply click on the “Details” button in the History tab for a precise timeline of the scenario’s performance.

Conclusion: The Power of AI and Automation

Embracing AI and automation enhances your operational efficiency like never before. By mastering scenario scheduling and performance review, you’re not just saving time and resources—you’re setting your workflow up for streamlined success. Stay tuned for the upcoming unit where we’ll dive deeper into diagnosing incomplete executions and advanced scheduling strategies!
